This film was submitted as part of Dr. Corey Cheval’s master’s thesis in performance studies at the Federal University of Bahia (2008). The film explores the choreographic intersections of dances of the afro-atlantic diaspora: samba reggae, hip hop and capoeira. The film was created in partnership with Bahian choreographer Carlos “Ujhama” Marques, the Dance School of the Cultural Foundation of the State of Bahia and the capoeira group Ginga & Malicia.

Dr. Cheval is the founder and director of the Gainesville Circus Center, 501c3 nonprofit performing arts school specialized in circus arts and world dance. Through this organization she directs the Brazilian dance group Flores do Samba and is co-producer of Brazil Fest Gainesville.
